Work, sports, movies, trains, shopping… there are a lot of opportunities and figures speak for themselves: 2 billion plastic cups and around 7 kilos of plastic bottles are thrown out per person every year… what a waste! And it’s bad for our purses, too!
Yes, but what alternatives do we have? Can we really change our habits in terms of water consumption? It’s exactly what Gobilab offers!
Samuel Degrémont, one of the three founders of Gobilab with Xavier Moisant and Florence Baitinger, kindly welcomed us in « La Ruche » (the French co-working space dedicated to social and environmental innovation) and showed us his invention, the Gobi…

Gobilab : what is it exactly?
Gobilab is the result of research in on various fields. With Cédric Ragot as the designer (you can discover his work here), the entire team worked starting from customs and expectations in terms of shape, hygiene and practicality (they worked with sociologists, laboratories, eco-designers, “Ademe”… a great team!!).
The result: an eco-conceived model, smart and useful, perfect to replace our small plastic bottles.
Gobi … What are the assets? Why give up our plastic bottles?
Much more than a simple flask with a nice design, Gobi offers many advantages.
“We tried to make the Gobi as practical as possible: it’s because it will be used every day by the largest number of people possible that Gobi will reduce waste production. The more you use it, the more you optimize your environmental impact and the more you save money! ”
Concerning the sustainable development approach, the Gobi has many assets:
- no Bisphenol A (BPA) : we can thus use it safely without any toxic components going into the water.
- re-usable during several years: it can be washed in the dishwasher (and it’s much more hygienic than a plastic bottle re-used 12 times and which will smell a bit froggy in the end!).
- made in France: it avoids the costs of international transport, as well as the pollution that goes with it…
Why is it a real change?
Gobilab is launching a complete network to get things going towards a more ecological and economical water consumption. This network – named “Eaupen” – will reference public fountains and eventually bars, restaurants and department stores which have agreed to let people fill up their flasks in their premises… We’ll soon see all this on an interactive map on our smartphones! Smart right?
Finally, last but not least!
Customizable as one pleases (that’s the way it works), each and everyone of us will be able to recognize his Gobi and really make it our very own flask.
We played virtually with ours, to find out what it would look like … Et voilaaaa! Sooo chic isn’t it?
If you want yours, you’ll have to be a little patient and pre-order it here!
Conclusion: Colette’s famous water bar should be worried … The street as a setting, your customized Gobi in your hand, that’s the new “trendy” temple of the water!

PS: Just so that you know, and because here on My Green Lifestyle we also like to speak about nice encounters, we just had lunch with Julie Coignet (the green blogger of Julie from Paris). And while chatting (yes, we are the chatty type!), we ended up discovering that our next posts on both blogs would be on Gobi!! Great minds think alike… and above all it shows that this small flask totally deserves its celebrity moment! Hence, you will soon find more information on Gobi here.
